Saturday 4th September
We arrived from various parts of the country and were taken by Jill to Epiphany House, Truro, a lovely place to stay on the edge of Truro, but within easy walking distance of Jill’s house, which is where we met each day for meals and worship.
Sunday 5th September
The good old English weather meant we awoke to quite heavy rain, and most of us went to various places of worship of our choice before returning to Jill’s house for lunch. By the afternoon the rain had abated enough for us to go for a walk along the riverside, which was good for stretching the legs after our journeys the previous day.
Monday 6th September
Unfortunately more rain meant no walking this morning, but some of us visited the Cathedral which was lovely. Once again, in the afternoon it stopped long enough for us to walk a few miles locally and see some more of the area.
Tuesday 7th September
Today we caught the train from Truro to Lelant Saltings then walked from there to St Ives. What is more, the sun shone and we had Cornish pasties for tea – wonderful!
Wednesday 8th September
Today we took the bus to Portscatho and then walked from there to Gerrans and St Just in Roseland, with quite a few showers along the way. We then walked on to St Mawes, where the sun was shining. We had a very jolly ride back on the bus to Truro, listening to some silly but hilarious jokes from one of our group! Fish and chips for tea rounded off a very enjoyable day.
Thursday 9th September
This morning we went by bus to Cubert and had a Celtic morning service in the church there. From there to Holywell, and then on to Perranporth. We enjoyed a picnic lunch on the clifftop in the sunshine, complete with hard boiled eggs – and salt!
Friday 10th September
We took the train to Falmouth and, following a short worship in St Mawnan Church, some of us then walked part of the South West Coast Path. One of our number fell into some bushes and looked terribly surprised about it, but was unhurt! We eventually took the bus back to Falmouth and then the train back to Truro. We had an enjoyable meal out at a local inn that evening, before heading back to pack ready for our travel home the next day.
We were very lucky to have the use of Jill’s home, where we were made to feel very welcome. We were a small group of 7, so people who had not met before were able to get to know each other over the mealtimes, and during our walks. It was a lovely week.
