Many questions have cropped up again and again over the years from people who are thinking of joining us on one of our journeys.

 Here are some of them.

What is included in the price?
All journeys are inclusive of accommodation, entrance fees as specified in the holiday description, meals (excepting casual refreshments) and all transport.

Are your journeys suitable for single people?
Yes, 70% of guests are independent travellers.

Do you welcome children and families?
Yes, but not all itineraries are suitable for very young children. There is no typical ‘average’ age for guests on Journeying holidays. Variety and diversity allow us to appreciate each other’s life stories at different stages. Certainly many of our guests could be described as ‘fit and retired’, but many younger people come along too. Families are more than welcome on our trips.
If in doubt please phone the Journey Leader for advice.

If you have a wide age range on journeys does this 'work'?
We find that although people may not be close in age they are in spirit and this always helps bond the group together.

Do guests share in meal preparation?
Yes, on most trips, but not all... sharing the washing up is a great way to make new friends! Fun and laughter is never far away on a Journeying holiday... to all intent and purpose we become a small travelling community.

Do you have to be a Christian to go on a Journeying holiday?
Some guests have already 'discovered' Jesus and seek to deepen their knowledge and love of Him and His Creation through travel to remote places; some are looking for new meaning and purpose in their life; some simply enjoy the places we go and the camaraderie of the journey.

So are non-Christians welcome on Journeying holidays?
The short answer is yes! Journeying is a Christian organisation in that it draws its inspiration from seeking a deeper relationship with God in remote, liminal places on the edge, much as Jesus did in fact. Our team members are active churchgoers from a broad range of denominations and yet we recognise that everyone has a spiritual side which is searching for something deeper, and all are welcome on our trips. Typically, each day we shall worship briefly in the morning (often on the hoof) and in the evening; all are welcome at such sessions, though of course not compelled to attend.

What happens if there is rain and bad weather?
Dressed appropriately walking & meandering in the rain can be an enjoyable experience affording a different view of the landscape!  We wouldn't normally set out for a day in the outdoors if really bad weather was forecast; as always there would be alternatives.

Do you have to be super fit?
Our holidays are not designed to exhaust. Please check through the itinerary and then decide if the holiday is suitable for you. The walk pace is always relaxed with plenty of time to look at the view and soak up the atmosphere - and each journey offers a series of walks where the approach is to allow you to 'grow into the walking' bit by bit as we travel through landscapes of great beauty. There are usually options available - short-cuts etc. Mountain tops may (occasionally) be included but ascent is always by the winding route and not vertical! Do phone the Journey leader if you would like further advice.

What should I bring with me?
This will vary from journey to journey.
Walking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm hat, gloves, light day-sac, container for sandwiches, water bottle are standard; always bring clothing suitable for our changeable climate.
A list of any additional items needed will be sent prior to the journey.

Do I have to join in everything?
No. One of the key features of a Journeying holiday is for you to do what is right for you at that time

Vegetarian and special diets
We will cater for all types of diet, because our approach is to treat people as individuals - all the time.

Is travel insurance required?
Yes. We strongly advise that you should take out your own travel insurance against cancellation because of illness etc.

How many people are there on each holiday?
Numbers range from the leaders plus four to leaders plus ten or so. A maximum is always imposed if we choose self-catering accommodation as it is very rare that we can find a very large property. In addition we feel that a total group size of about 12 is optimum for trips of the Journeying kind; any larger and it becomes difficult to maintain a close family ambience, which is what we always strive for on a journey.

Worship
Our worship is primarily focused on what the Celts called the 'Big Book of Creation' - or what might be termed 'God out of the box'. For in the wideness and wildness of the natural world God speaks in great and powerful ways. But we also include times of reflective worship at the start and end of each day - and often while we are out walking or simply just sitting on a beach. Think of communion on the side of a loch or by a hill stream or on a hill with a view all round....

Will I be able to attend RC Mass?
Yes that should be possible, excepting perhaps in the more remote locations. All our leaders know their areas well, so please do contact the leader for the journey which interests you.

Can I book a single room?
Single rooms are available on some journeys, but not all. Please see the individual journey itinerary.  A supplement may be charged on single occupancy.

I live on my own & I'm not sure I'd be able to share sleeping space with another person; will there be any single rooms available?
This may perhaps be possible on some of our trips; indeed when planning accommodation our leaders actively seek this preference. We would more usually offer twin bedded rooms, so please do have a look at our journey descriptions as accommodation and group sizes vary. Our leaders will be delighted to chat about this matter with you.

Are discounts available for children?
Yes, a 20% reduction is available for young people under the age of 16 years when accompanied by a paying adult.
